Gold Rush - Hallett Motor Racing Circuit

The 14th Annual Oklahoma Gold Rush was held on November 6th and 7th, 2010, giving US Highland the opportunity to defend their previous year’s title in the Pro Open Supermoto motorcycle class. After a hard-fought back-and-forth battle with seasoned Pro, Monte Frank, Jamie Seavers, on a Highland 507 Supermoto, took 1st place. The 507 he rode belonged to Chase Bales, one of the original founders of US Highland, who passed away last summer. As a special note, Kale Bales, junior rider and son of Chase Bales, rode in four events over the weekend and did very well.

On Saturday, one of US Highland’s regional dealers, Jeff Smith and his son Tyler both rode the beginner race on Highland 450’s. Brian Driver also rode in this event. All three bikes finished and the riders placed admirably. Jeff Smith rode a Highland 450 Motocross, with Tyler and Brian both riding 450 Enduros.

On Sunday, John Bestland, on a Highland 450 MX, placed 4th in the Individual race. Other riders included Deon Bean and Tyler Smith, with strong finishes in multiple categories, both riding Highland 450 Enduro bikes. In addition, after a shaky start, Travis Frederick charged forward to finish 4th in the Open Quad Class on a Highland 507 Quad.

Special thanks to Randy Medlin, Race Team Manager, for all of his overtime work and organization to make this event such a success. Overall, it was a great weekend for US Highland and we appreciate all of our riders, pit crews, and their supportive families who allowed them to participate in this exciting event.

September 26, 2010 - Sallisaw, Oklahoma

Oklahoma Cross Country Racing Association

The Oklahoma Cross Country Racing Association stopped in the beautiful rolling green hills of Sallisaw today for the most technically challenging course on the circuit for over ten years.

Two inches of rain on Saturday evening had the stream on the course moving fast enough that one could tube down and in spots, it was thirty inches deep.

With rock infested uphill areas, this single track rivals any GNCC course and several wide open fire roads. Everything one could ask for in a race was here.

Team Highland racers John Bestland and Randy Medlin were joined by Inventory Control Supervisor, Deon Bean on a Highland 507. Bean and Medlin both earned seventh place finishes in their respective classes after the grueling ninety minute race.

The highlight of the day was Over Forty Expert Racer, John Bestland. Bestland claimed his first victory in class and the first OCCRA victory for Team Highland as well.

Worsening conditions for Bestland in the second race forced him to charge toward the front and battle for the win.

Emerging from the thick woods in first place to begin his final lap, Bestland and the Highland 450 proved to his competitors they were no match for him.

Sept 12, 2010 - El Reno, OK

Angel Ridge Mountain Park

Round nine of the Oklahoma Cross Country Racing Association at the picturesque Angel Ridge Mountain Park, two racers from US Highland, John Bestland (Production Supervisor) and Randy Medlin (Race Director) took on both the competition and Mother Nature.

As steady rains for nearly two hours continued to fall, they turned the hilly and fast course into a quagmire for Bestland. After one hour and forty minutes on the MX 450, Bestland soldiered on through the muck for a well deserved third place finish in the over forty expert class.

When the rain stopped, the sun came out for Medlin in the over 50 amateur class. After working his way through the pack on the MX 507 to an impressive fourth place, a miscalculation in the fuel strategy ruined the chance for a top five finish. Medlin ran the tank dry at the one hour and thirty minute mark. He recovered and went on to finish eighth in the event.

March 7, 2010 - Washington, Ga.

The General GNCC.

Round two was met by the Highland team with Jakob Morhed and his Highland 450 which was tuned and ready to tackle the competition of round two. With three national races under his belt in just six days, young Morhed was more than fit and up to the task at hand. Morhed 's lap times were improving during the race as he figured out the Georgia soil for the first time. In the end he finished 16th in the Pro class.

March 4 2010 - Alligator Enduro

Jakob Morhed in his first AMA enduro managed to stay within four minutes of David Knight well into the race. His Highland 450 was running well and allowing Morhed to improve his finishing position by race end. At the end young Morhed commented that "He has not ridden in any tighter or tougher conditions," back home in Sweden. Morhed finished 17th but was a little disappointed saying he had a good bike under him and was wanting to race further than the shortened race allowed.

March 2, 2010 - River Ranch, Florida

GNCC Round One.

The opening round of the 2010 GNCC series saw the US Highland Off Road Team make their first mark in the USA. The American made motorcycles were raced by Martin Lind and Jakob Morhed, both Swedish racers with considerable off road experience. Lind overcame being knocked unconsisience and Morhed had to complete half a lap on just the rear rim. The results were amazing with both racers charging hard to the finish, with Lind and Morhed collecting the 17th and 21st spots in the Pro XC 1 class respectively.
